Questions about the hair transplantation methods

Which hair transplant method should I choose, the FUE technique or the DHI technique?

After the consultation, a final decision will be made as each client has different baldness and density.

What is the FUE hair transplant method?

The FUE method (Follicular Unit Extraction) consists of three stages.:

  1. Grafts are extracted from the donor area.
  2. The channels in the recipient area are opened.
  3. The grafts are transplanted one by one into the recipient area.

What is the DHI hair transplant method?

For the DHI method (Direct Hair Implantation) the first stage is the same as the initial stage in the FUE technique. The second and third stages, as mentioned above, are combined in the DHI technique. A special pen called a Choi implanter simultaneously opens the canal and injects the hair follicle into the scalp.

The method to be used for the patient depends on the results of the consultation with the hair transplant specialist. Depending on the patient, it depends on various factors, including but not limited to the type of baldness, number of grafts, quality of grafts, thickness of grafts, skin elasticity, previous surgeries, etc.

What is the Micro-FUE hair transplant method?

The Micro-FUE hair transplant method is a method how the grafts are extracted from the donor area. In the normal FUE hair transplant method, the grafts are extracted manually with a special punch head. However, during the micro-FUE method, the plastic surgeon chooses a special micro motor punch head, which can extract more grafts with less irritation. As a result, he has more and healthier grafts to implant into the bald areas

Another advantage of the micro-FUE method is that the healing time is less and the density of hair in the donor area (back of the head) in terms of hair re-growth or hair coverage after surgery will be greater compared to the normal FUE method .

What is an ARTAS robotic hair transplant?

Some hair transplant clinics or some countries do not have enough experienced or competent surgeons to extract healthy grafts from the scalp. Therefore, the ARTAS robotic hair transplantation method was developed. ARTAS hair transplantation allows grafts to be extracted using a special robot. Therefore the robot will only perform the first stage of the operation. The medical team will open the channels and implant the grafts.

What is the Sapphire FUE method?

The Sapphire FUE method is the latest method of transplantation. It uses a specialised sapphire gemstone which opens the channels in a ‘V’ shape. As a result, there is less bleeding during and after surgery compared to the older method which uses steel blades. In addition, since the tip of the needle is “V” shaped, the number of grafts implanted in the bald area will be higher compared to the old method. The advantages of using the Sapphire method are that we can open more channels per square centimetre, the healing time on the transplanted area is shorter. After the operation in the transplanted area there will be a higher hair density, a more natural look, etc. – better results.

What is the selective implantation method?

Some grafts have one hair, others have two, three or four hairs per hair follicle. The hair follicles (grafts) are extracted from the donor area on the backside of the head. Directly after the extraction they are collected separately according to the number of hairs per graft. Until their implantation they are preserved in a special nutrient solution.
The grafts that have only one hair, are used for the first rows of the new hairline. The grafts that have two, three of four hairs per graft, get implanted into the areas behind the hairline. This way it gives a more natural look at the frontal hairline and a higher density in the parts behind.

What does the sapphire micro-FUE method look like?

The first stage consists of graft extraction using the Micro-FUE method. The second stage consists of opening the channels using the sapphire blades. And the third stage consists of transplanting the grafts using the selective implantation method.
