Why benefit from plastic surgery?

The variety of possible plastic surgery procedures has a lot to offer. Thanks to modern methods and qualified specialists it is possible to improve practically any part of the body. So the personal claim of beauty or spots which make us feel uncomfortable can be corrected. But are plastic surgeries safe and is it worth undergoing such an operation?

Benefits of plastic surgery

Only a dozen or so years ago plastic surgery was mainly associated with show business stars from the front pages of newspapers. At that time many people believed that the effects of plastic surgery are usually far from what was intended and that it is not worth interfering with the appearance of the body in this way. Understandably, most pictures of people after plastic surgery that were shown by gossip portals in those days depicted unsuccessful procedures. Today, the perception of aesthetic medicine has changed dramatically mainly because it has become widely available. It is no longer reserved exclusively for music and film stars. It is often the only solution e.g. for various types of injuries or diseases.

Some beauty defects have a big impact on lowering self-esteem. Sometimes complexes are so strong that they affect different areas of life. Regardless of the cause, plastic surgery can significantly help to get rid of complexes and restore self-confidence. In turn, greater self-confidence is a feature that has a positive impact on many areas of life.

What can you improve yourself? – the most popular plastic surgeries

Patients come to plastic surgery clinics for various reasons. They can be divided into two groups: patients who decide to undergo plastic surgery for health reasons and those who have only aesthetic considerations in mind.
The most popular plastic surgeries are:

  • liposuction
  • eyelid correction
  • breast size and shape
  • nose correction
  • scar removal
  • anti-aging

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, patients presenting to plastic surgery clinics in 2018 were most likely to opt for breast augmentation, liposuction, blepharoplasty, which means eyelid correction, or rhinoplasty, which means nose correction.

Breast augmentation

It is performed in order to change the volume of the bust or its shape. In most cases it results from aesthetic reasons, less often from medical indications such as amputation or structural anomaly.

Bust augmentation consists in placing implants filled with saline or silicone gel. The procedure is long-lasting and allows to obtain full and firm breasts.

Nose correction

Indications for its performance include sleep apnoea, snoring, abnormal nasal passage. These are so-called functional abnormalities. Aesthetic indications include: large or disproportionate nose, crooked or humped nose, and one with disturbed symmetry. Rhinoplasty is performed using different techniques depending on the type of defect. Rhinoplasty is performed under general anaesthesia.

Eyelid surgery

Blepharoplasty involves the removal of excess skin from the eyelids together with the muscle. Excess and sagging of the eyelid skin, drooping eyelids, bags under the eyes and the so-called medial hernia, i.e. excess fatty tissue in the eyelid area, are indications for eyelid correction. The procedure requires general or local anaesthesia. It can be performed on both upper and lower eyelids.

Liposuction

During liposuction, excess fat between the skin and muscles is removed. The areas covered by this type of treatment are usually the abdomen, thighs, arms and chin. Up to two areas can be liposuctioned at the same time during one treatment. Liposuction is not a method for treating obesity. The final effects can be observed a few months after the treatment in the form of slimming of the selected area and clearer body contours.

Facelift

It aims to remove the visible signs of skin ageing by getting rid of excess sagging facial skin. It is performed using various techniques such as the S-Lift or SMAS lift. The effects can last up to 10 years. Indications for performing the procedure are deep wrinkles, nasolabial grooves and sagging skin. In the case of face lift it is necessary to place subcutaneous sutures.

Is plastic surgery safe?

It is worth remembering that every surgical intervention in our body is associated with more or less risk. The level of risk is closely related to the area where the operation is performed. If general anaesthesia is used, various discomforts such as headaches or nausea may occur. Before any operation, it is mandatory for the patient to undergo a medical examination to rule out any possible contraindications to the operation. The way to minimize the risk of complications after plastic surgery is to use only highly qualified people with good reviews. It is best to choose clinics with a reputation and high standard of service.

Plastic surgery is seen by many people as a way to improve their self-esteem and sense of self-worth or attractiveness, and thus increase their comfort and satisfaction with life. Here it is worth remembering that in the pursuit of an ideal body, health is always the most important consideration.

Many people decide on procedures that interfere with their appearance for no apparent reason. In addition, fashion or the prevailing cult of beauty has a huge impact on the human psyche. The persistent desire to improve one’s appearance at all costs may lead to an addiction to beauty treatments. Experienced aesthetic surgeons as well as clinic staff are able to verify the legitimacy of plastic surgery on the basis of consultations.
